The 2002 R.V.'s Fine Claret is named for winemaker Bill Cooper's grandfather, R.V. Garrod and is the blend now known in current releases as the Test Pilot F-86 Sabre Jet. This 2002 vintage is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Cabernet Franc, plus 24% Merlot and was originally released in February 2008: "Rich garnet in the glass, leading into a nose reminiscent of dried plums, blueberries, raspberries, and - yes - dark grapes! The palate finds ripe Bing cherries, lush berries laced with a kiss of cassis, and richly tanned leather with hints of fine pipe tobacco. The velvety, smooth finish lingers with the wine's easily elegant structure." $51/bottle ($40.80 Club members).
