2014 Pinot Noir
A very pretty garnet color, this wine’s bouquet invokes ripe strawberries, fine black tea leaves, and a hint of cola. The silky texture harkens red rose petals, a mixture of berries, and a touch of pomegranate, followed by a graceful finish.
A half inch of rain in December started the rainy season. By the end of February, we only had four more inches, less than 2 inches in March and April and we were done for the season with 8.34 inches: 4 inches less that 2013 drought, and 20 inches under our historic average. The dry spring,s 3-5 degrees above normal, brought budbreak forward a month to mid-February, and we again spaded all the grasses into the soil to eliminate moisture competition for the vines. No heat spikes in the summer was a benefit. Harvest was early, beginning on 20 August and over by 1 October.
