1994 Cabernet Sauvignon
The 1994 Cabernet Sauvignon is unfiltered and 100% of the varietal,
a blend of George’s and the Valley View Vineyards. Although previous
vintages from Valley View had been sold to other wineries, 1994 was
the first Cooper-Garrod vintage to include this vineyard.
Harvest was completed without complications from the scattered October
1994 rains. The Valley View vineyard was picked on October 26
at 23.4 Brix, pH 3.37, and TA 0.50; George’s Vineyard was picked on
October 29 at 21.0 Brix, pH 3.40, and TA 0.72. The wine was barrel fermented
in separate lots in French oak for 20 months and 783 cases were bottled.
At bottling, the combined lot had pH 3.61, 0.62 TA. Released in
December 1997, the retail price is $25/bottle.
A repeat award winner, the 1994 Cooper-Garrod Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
won a double gold at the 1997 Santa Cruz County Fair and golds at the
1997 World Wine Championships and San Francisco Bay Area Wine Competition.
